WFL MINI LAW SCHOOL 2026 SUMMER PROGRAM (JUNE 1 - 5)

An Introduction to the Law Profession.

The WFL Mini Law School Program is a one-week-long high school law program sponsored by Winters Family Law providing students with an introduction to legal careers and trial practice.

Students will meet practicing lawyers, judges, and law school admissions personnel.

Students will participate in interactive sessions with practicing attorneys in multiples areas of law. Students will also meet college counsellors and law school admissions personnel. Students will see first-hand what lawyers do on a day-to-day basis and learn from professionals how to prepare for a career in law. An exciting "pre-law" experience for high school students!

Participate in a Mock Trial Exercise.

As a capstone to the program, students will prepare for and participate in a mock trial before a Cook County Judge in a Daley Center courtroom.  Students will prepare their own examinations and arguments, with direction and coaching from WFL's experienced trial attorneys and guest lecturers.

Summer Workshop, 2026 Session: June 1 - 5.

Students will not spend the week sitting in a classroom; they will go where the lawyers are!  Students will visit local courtrooms (Lake and Cook County), visit Northwestern University School of Law for a tour and an information session with law school admissions, and much more.

Student and Parent Reviews of the Mini-Law School

"A fantastic camp..."

"Thank you for organizing such a fantastic camp! The experiences from this past week, including participating in my first mock trial, have truly deepened my passion for the law and given me a clearer sense of what field of law I want to pursue. The week was so well organized, and with the lack of similar opportunities in the area, I am so glad that you volunteered a week of your time and countless more hours of planning to make this happen. You both have great personalities that made the week a perfect mix of learning with fun (and the trivia was great, though I may be a little biased.) It was a tough decision to decide if I would be able to participate in the camp, as it would require ending my law internship downtown a week early. However, I am very confident that I made the right choice and can't imagine it any other way! The content of the camp taught me more than any day in a job could. This morning took some time to get adjusted to without a legal panel to question or those Marriott cookies; however, I am already looking forward to next year and the day when I present a case for a judge, no longer in a mock trial context! Thank you, J.K. (student)

"Loved going to the circuit court..."

"I had the privilege of participating last summer in the High School Mini Law School program that you and your husband led back in August. I wanted to sincerely thank you again for such an impactful experience introducing me to the world of law in so many different aspects. I especially loved going to the Circuit Court in Waukegan and observing the trial there, as well as touring the Northwestern law school campus. That summer experience played a major role in affirming my decision to pursue political science in college, and I can’t express how grateful I am to you and your husband for opening up your profession to inspire the next generation of lawyers. E.F. (Student)

"Extremely Impactful..."

" Thank you very much to you and David for organizing such a wonderful session - it was extremely impactful and broadened the insights on how our legal system works and giving kids a very diverse sneak peek into various areas of law. J. enjoyed it very much and learned quite a bit. Now we just have to wait and see if he chooses law as his future career." M.K. (Parent)

"Wonderful mini-law camp..."

"I wanted to take a moment to thank you for organizing such a wonderful mini law camp for high school students. The amount of planning, coordination, and dedication that went into making it such a success is truly inspiring. Your efforts brought together so many passionate professionals willing to share their experiences and demonstrate what it truly means to be a lawyer. This kind of exposure and mentorship is an invaluable gift to young people exploring their future careers. You gave these students more than just a camp—you gave them an experience that could shape their futures. F. came home excited each day, eager to share what she learned and experienced. She is already looking forward to next year’s camp with great anticipation. Thank you again for your outstanding contribution, to the profession and for inspiring the next generation." Z.V. (parent)

"So many amazing experiences..."

" An email is not enough to thank you for this wonderful week of mini law school. I'm so impressed with how much A. learned in just one week. I can't imagine what an undertaking it was to coordinate so many amazing experiences. When I first talked with A. about it, he was apprehensive to sign up as he didn't have a passion per se for law. Well, you captivated him and he enjoyed each day. It was so fun to hear about his day. He enjoyed telling us all about the various activities you did. I am a school psychologist, so he found it fun to meet an educational attorney and to learn about guardian ad litems and asked me if I've ever worked with one. You really opened his eyes to what lawyers do and to so many career avenues. A. didn't know anyone but he said he had such a good time getting to know the other students and collaborating with them. He was sad the camp came to an end. He enjoyed the friendly competition and the teamwork atmosphere.I appreciate the emails and details of your day. A. was so impressed with the various undergraduate majors that go into law. Thank you for sharing that with the students. All too often kids think they need to know for certain what they want to do and once they decide there's no changing that. You taught these students so many skills in just one week that they will take with them for years to come. I stumbled upon this camp on a GBN facebook group. I would love for my younger son and daughter to do it in the future should you host it again. Please reach out if you continue this camp. It was such a success for A. Thanks again! Enjoy your weekend!" Z.N. (parent)
